Lafayette Spring Sports

A preview of Lafayette’s Spring Sports!

Today we are going to look into the future of Lafayette’s Spring Sports: Baseball, Softball, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Boys Tennis, and Girls Tennis. We often have lots of athletes get scholarships for their future, whatever path they decide to go. Here at Lafayette our sports across all seasons do very well and we go into the playoffs in most sports.

Getting the win!

Baseball is one of our best spring sports. We have had many players go on to play in college after they graduate from Lafayette. The last season of 21-22 there record was 17-8. Their losses were against New Kent, Smithfield, Poquoson, Warhill, Jamestown, and Liberty Christian in playoffs.  They hope to have fewer losses in the upcoming season.

We have two players in college that graduated last season which were Luke Hanson and Kevin Cole. Last season Price Whitaker was the leader in Batting Average, On Base Percentage, tied with 2 others for Home Runs, led in hits, and slugging percentage. He graduated last year. Luke Hanson led for stolen bases with Austen Townsend close behind him. CJ Buchan led in Fielding Percentage with an average of .976.

Girl’s Softball last season was 6-15. Their wins were against Denbigh, Bruton, Jamestown 2 times, and Matthews. The leader in Batting Average and On Base Percentage was Rylee Short. This season will be her last season at Lafayette High School. Jacy Ramos was the leader in Home Runs and Fielding Percentage. She is also a senior so this will be her last season as well. Keira Zimmer was the leader of Stolen Bases with 5. Megan Gerda who graduated last year led in hits with 13. They are looking forward to a good season!

Varsity Boys’ Soccer last year had a great year! They ended their year 11-8. They ended up in playoffs. Their losses were Warhill, Tabb, Smithfield, Jamestown, New Kent, and in playoffs Meridian. Last season they were 6th in the Bay Rivers District. In VA Division Class 3 they were 18th.

Working on different skills to get better all around!

Varsity Girls Soccer had an amazing year last year! They finished their season 18-2. Their 2 losses were Menchville and Smithfield. They won the VA Division Class 3 Championship. The leader in Goals per Match, Assists Per Match, and Goals were Brooke Potter. She also led with points with 96. They were 2nd in the Bay Rivers District. They were also 2nd in the Class 3 Girls Soccer Division for the 21-22 season.

Lastly, we have Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Tennis. The Varsity Boy’s Tennis ended their season 6-4. The teams they lost to were Bruton, Tabb, Grafton, and Jamestown but they were all very close games between the 2 teams. They went

into the postseason to Districts. The Varsity Girls Tennis finished their season 4-8. Again, similar to the Varsity Boy’s Tennis the matches were close. The Girls Tennis lost a couple seniors after last season so the lineup will be different then last year and there will be new faces!

Lafayette students are very excited for our spring sports this year! There is lots of school spirit and students show out to lots of different events and games!
