Chad Ochocinco Johnson (born Chad Javon Johnson; January 9, 1978), known from 2008 to 2012 as Chad Ochocinco, is a former American football wide receiver. He played college football for Santa Monica College and Oregon State University and played 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) for the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and the Miami Dolphins. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL) in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft and played for the Bengals for 10 seasons.

In 2011, Johnson was traded to the New England Patriots, for whom he played in Super Bowl XLVI. In 2012, Johnson played for the Miami Dolphins during preseason but was released following his arrest for domestic violence. He played for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 2014 to 2015 and played one game in 2017 for Mexican team Monterrey Fundidores of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Professional. Johnson emerged as one of the NFL’s most productive wide receivers of the 2000s and owns nearly every Bengals receiving record.

Ochocinco was also one of the craziest personalities in the history of the National Football League. After changing his name to Ochocinco. According to the Guardian he referred to himself as “the Black Mexican,” despite the fact that Ochocinco doesn’t even translate to “eighty-five.”

Though he was known as one of the most notorious trash talkers of all time, Ocho still loved to talk about literally anything on the field. He was always asking other players whatever happened to run thorough his mind as we see in his many mic’d up games on NFL Films. Asking the defensive back what they had for breakfast or what they thought about him changing up his hair style was characteristic of him. He also loved to tell those guarding him that they were about to “kiss the baby,” an expression he himself made up which no one else quite understands.

Ochocinco was the first to revolutionize the touchdown celebration. No longer was it just spiking the ball or leaping into the front row of the crowd. He added a personality to the game that many since have emulated. Chad went as far as to propose to a cheerleader mid-game (how could she say no?). He even went as far to as to send Pepto Bismol to the opposing team’s locker rooms after games.

All of this makes the man a true entertainer, but it would be for nothing if he couldn’t back it up with his game. Chad was one of the best receivers to ever do it and has a strong case to really be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
