On February 11,2017   North Korean leader Kim Jong Un launched a ballistic missile. North Korea claimed that it could hit Washington D.C., but it harmlessly fell into the Sea of Japan. After this event President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press conference to discuss what is to be done about North Korea. Prime Minister Abe condemned North Korea’s actions calling it, “absolutely intolerable.” During this conference President Donald Trump assured Japan that the United States stands behind them completely. “The United States of America stands behind Japan, it’s great ally, one-hundred percent.”, (the President said) Prime Minister Abe read a statement calling on North Korea “to fully comply with the U.N.’s security council resolution.”    North Korea reportedly fired the missile to test Donald Trump’s new administration. The hostilities between the United States and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is a product of the cold war. The U.S. has never had a good relation with the DPRK. On the other hand, the U.S. and Japan’s relation has had a shaky start post WW2, but became better as U.S. rehabilitation

efforts proved in the mid-20th century. These missiles present a greater threat to Japan than to the United States, due to Japan is in greater proximity to the DPRK.
