4A Swimming and Diving Regional Meet

Both the Girls and Boys Swim Team were looking to do well the weekend of February 10th, in the 4A Regional Meet. They were aiming to be one of the top 5 teams in the state. The main goal was for the swimmers on both teams to be going for personal records and trying to qualify for the state meet, which was the following weekend. Henry Gaston, senior and captain of the boy’s team, said of the event, “The most competitive team this weekend for both the girls’ and boys’ teams will be Jamestown.” This is not only because of the rivalry between the two schools, but because when the teams faced Jamestown during the regular season they only came up short by a few points.

In the end, both teams did very well. Many people swam personal records, and there were a few meet records set by Lafayette swimmers, as well. The relays did as they were expected and swam their seed time, and some even placed higher than they were supposed to. Both the guys and the girls swim teams came in third place Friday night, and the 4A Swimming and Diving State meet is on Friday the 17th.

4A Swimming and Diving State Meet

The 4A Swimming and Diving Meet was on Friday the 17th. The Lafayette Girl’s Swim Team brought eight swimmers. Caroline Felhman, Emma Freiling, Colby Hurt, Ashley King, Sofia Long, Olivia Nice, Grace Olsen, and Kelly Schisa made up the girl’s team for states this year. The Boy’s Swim Team brought eight swimmers, also. Flynn Crisci, Ethan Detweiler, Henry Gaston, Chris Kostelni, Sam Long, Drummond Poole, Matt Rice, and Finn Sensiba were the boys who traveled to the state meet this year. Both teams looked to place in the Top 3 this year. The teams were planning to dominate, and were counting on points, with their relay teams. Many of the swimmers were looking for more personal records, and a few were planning to swim meet record times. It was held at the Poseidon Aquatic Center.

This past weekend the Lafayette Swim Team swam in the 4A Swimming and Diving Meet. The Girl’s Team came in 3rd, and the Boy’s Team finished 8th place. Although the boys did not do as well as they had hoped, individually there were good things. The Boys 200 Medley Relay placed 6th. Chris Kostelni placed 8th in the 500 Freestyle. Colby Hurt, a freshman on the Girl’s team, won and set the 4A State Meet Record in the 200 Freestyle. She also placed very high in her other events. The Girls 200 Freestyle Relay placed 2nd, too.
