Greece is country that has been around for centuries, being one of the most significant areas in the ancient world. Greece is known for its ancient philosophers and as the birthplace of democracy in the West. Ancient Greece was the place that invented monumental temples and the column. Along with the great and historic architecture, there are many sights to see in Greece. If you are someone who enjoys architecture, history, and beaches, Greece is the place to visit.

The Parthenon is one of the most famous landmarks in the Acropolis, Greece. There is even a replica of this building in Nashville, Tennessee, where it serves as the city’s art museum.

Greece is made up of many islands that are surrounded by many seas such as, the Ionian Sea, the Aegean Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. With most of the country being bordered by water, there are many beaches to visit on your trip to Greece, especially when Greece has been rated as containing best beaches in Europe. Greek beaches are at their best between the months May and October, where it’s the best time for swimming. The top rated beach in Greece is Elafonissi, Crete. This beach is mostly secluded, where there isn’t much else nearby except a few hotels. Naxos is one of the islands in Greece, and it contains many amazing beaches. Plaka Beach in Naxos is another top rated beach in Greece. If you’re looking for a beach for the family, Ornos Beach is the best in Mykonos. Ornos Beach has calm water with a shallow slope, and a restaurant called Kostantis serves food right to the beach.

For history lovers there are many Ancient Greek landmarks to visit. The Acropolis of Athens is the most famous historical landmark in all of Greece. The Acropolis contains many famous buildings such as the Parthenon, the Erectheion, the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Propylaea. Most of this landmark is destroyed from wars, as it has been around for centuries. Ancient Olympia is another famous site to see, as it was the first place to hold the Olympic Games, in 776 BC. So of the most crucial places to see in Ancient Olympia are the temple of Zeus, the temple of Hera, and the Ancient Stadium. The Ancient Theatre in Epidaurus, Greece, is another important landmark to see. It is considered the best preserved theatre in Greece regarding its perfect acoustics and fine structure. You can even hear the sound of a pen dropping in this theatre. The Delphi is another one of Greece’s top attractions. Delphi is located on the side of Mount Parnassus and it was a popular pilgrimage spot back then for those who would pay homage to Apollo.

The Melissani Cave is somewhere you can visit between the months of May and October, as well as swim! Though swimming hours are only from 6:30am-11am Monday through Friday.

For those who love nature or architecture, there are many sights to see, ranging from mountains to towns. Mount Olympis is one of the most famous mountains in the world, and climbing it is an opportunity not to miss. You will need to travel to Litochoro first in order to start the trek up the mountain. Located on the island of Crete, the Samaria Gorge is another crucial sight to see for nature-lovers. A walk along the entire Gorge can take up to seven hours. Near Karavomilo rests Melissani Cave, which is known for its beauty, as well as Melissani Lake, which is an underground body of water that was discovered in 1951. To get the full experience inside the cave, you can go down into the cave from a tunnel, and then exit it on a boat through the water.
