Hamilton & Pence

The cast of Hamilton caused a controversy when cast member Brandon Dixon caught Mike Pence and his family leaving the show. He urged Pence to stay for a little while longer. Dixon began his statement by acknowledging Vice President Elect Mike Pence, and saying that they had a message for him.

“You know we have a guest in the audience this evening, Vice President Elect Mike Pence, I hope you will hear us just a few more minutes. We have a message for you, Sir, we hope that you will hear us out, and I encourage everybody to pull out their phones and tweet and film this, because this message needs to be spread far and wide. Vice President Elect Pence we welcome you and truly thank you for joining us at Hamilton an American musical. We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us. Our children, Our Inalienable rights, Sir, but we truly hope this has inspired you to uphold are American values and work on behalf of all of us. And we truly thank you for seeing this American story told by a diverse group of man and woman”.

President Elect Trump called the cast “rude” in a tweet and demanded an apology. It all comes down to Pence, for whom the message was intended. He said that the boos he faced at the show were what freedom sounded like, and that he wasn’t offended by the cast of Hamilton.
