The brand new addition in the LEGO Star Wars video games series has many excited, including myself. This game, due to release on April 5th, brings with it new features, gameplay, and opportunities that fans have been wanting for years. The developers over at Warner Bros. have mentioned multiple times that this game will not only be the biggest Lego Star Wars game, but the biggest–and hopefully–best LEGO game ever made.

The Skywalker Saga is going to be a game like no other. As stated previously, this will be the largest LEGO game that has ever been produced. With over 23 different planets and moons to visit, the pure scale of it all is unimaginable. Players will be able to enter whatever ship they desire to control, fly to wherever their destination is, entering that atmosphere and landing where they’d like. Another statement, that has also been shown in gameplay, involves the amount of playable characters in the game. Overall, there will be around 800 characters in the game, with 380 of those characters being playable by the user.

Gameplay changes themselves include the change of the camera angle. Unlike previous LEGO games, The Skywalker Saga will be taking a different approach with an “over the shoulder” camera rather than a zoomed out angle that keeps the character in the center of the screen. This allows for yet another change in gameplay, which is the ability to actually zoom in with your weapon and control what it is you’re really aiming at. Also, while fighting your enemies, if one is to attack you, the player can deflect the attack with a counterattack. All these changes will not only make the game more immersive, but it also introduces a fresh slate, which new and returning players can appreciate.

All the changes and additions mentioned above truly show just how much time the developers put into this game specifically. With all the changes does come mishaps and mistakes though, which has caused the videogame to have been delayed multiple times. Originally, LEGO Star Wars the Skywalker Saga was intended to release October 20th, 2020. Clearly this has changed, as the game will now release in less than two weeks on April 5th, 2022. Although, there is no need to fret about the game being delayed again this time around. This is because Warner Bros released a statement about a week ago saying that the game has “gone gold,” meaning that it is officially finished, and they now just have to produce copies of the game and ship them out.

April 5th looks to be a big day for not only Star Wars fans but many others who enjoy playing games. There’s huge potential here and personally I’m extremely excited about it. Hopefully, the game lives up to its hype and the talk surrounding it. Lafayette student, Keegan Reider, shared similar enthusiasm: “I can barely hold back my excitement if I’m being honest. My mouth waters at just the title of the of the game. I can’t wait!”
