Hundreds of thousands of people come from around the world to view some of the best teams in the sport.

Lights blare, screens turn on, computer fans whirl to life. A stadium filled with crowds of hundreds of thousands of people, with even more watching online. They stand on stage, looking at a trophy. That trophy being the League of Legends Worlds 2021 Championship Trophy. And they’re willing to play to win.

With large scale Call Of Duty Tournaments back in the early 2010s, to now with big show-stoppers like the Overwatch League. But let’s take a step back and look at the biggest, most widespread league of all. Worlds. The, quite literal, Worldwide League of Legends tournament that has made legends. Names such as Faker, Jankos, Scarra, Rekkles, and Teddy spark up conversation of their immense skills within the game. Playing at worlds means fighting at the top of the top, the best of the best. E-Sports as a whole would not have the same level of impact around the world without the huge community and skilled players of this Game Breaking MOBA. But when did this whole scene start? And why has it managed to explode to international levels, taking the hearts of newer and older players?

Dreamhack Summer 2011 was where the first large scale league tournament was taken place.  It took place in Sweden.

That’s when we’ll take a long leap back to early 2010s. Specifically 2011, when the League of Legends World Championship was founded. The first large scale international tournament for League took place in June 11th, 2011 at Dreamhack Summer 2011. Teams from North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia all came together to play, a grand total of $100,000 USD. Won by team Fnatic, this set the stage for next year, then all the years coming.

Starting back on October 5th, 2021, with the main event starting October 11th, Worlds 2021 has seen tons of worldwide support for their teams of their countries. Teams fighting for a large pool of their team, and to win the hearts and minds of their fans. Although it may be subject to change, the current said Prize Pool is currently $2,225,000 USD, a large pool for an even larger event. The main big names in the world are in the LCK, which are the Korean teams, The LPL, which are the Chinese teams, and the LCK witch is all of North America abbreviated as NA. These 3 have been the powerhouses of the LoL E-Sports scenes. Teams such as 100 Thieves, Cloud 9 for the North American teams, FunPlus Phoenix and EDG for the Chinese LPL teams, and the most popular, best in the world, T1 and GEN.G for the Korean LCK.

The LCS or League Championship Series is home to popular teams such as 100 Thieves, Cloud9, Golden Guardians, and several others in North America

We have some of the most popular teams in the entire league! With T1 and Gen.G taking the Semi-Finals. T1 is the most popular team of the last couple seasons since around 2015, due to them being the only team that possesses 3 different finalist year tournament trophies, having one in the years 2013, 2015, and 2016. These trophies are known as the “Summoner’s Cup”

Big Teams, Big Names, and the worldwide support and cheers for every single member. Unfortunately with no time date for the release of Season 12 of League of Legends, we’re unsure on whether Worlds 2021 will end before or during it’s release, as a sort of farewell to Season 11, and a Joyous Hurrah for the new content that will be arriving for us, and everyone.
