Apple. Such a modest name for such an epically, successful company. Created by Steve Jobs, this corporation is worth billions of dollars. Each year, Apple releases a new and improved version of the previous iPhone model. This September, they released the iPhone 7, iPhone 7+, and the Apple Watch Series 2. The one thing that these three have in common is that they are all water resistant. Although the price of the Apple Watch Series 2 increased by $100, the general consensus is that the added features make it worth it.

The Apple Watch Series 2 includes features such as a heart rate sensor, apps, notifications, and Siri. Lafayette senior Robin Rosewelsh, a relatively new owner of the Apple Watch Series 2, says, “I like how convenient the Apple Watch is because the notifications from my phone go straight to my watch. I especially enjoy the water resistant feature.” The added convenience of not having to take off your watch when entering a pool or the shower is unbeatable. A key issue with adding the water resistant feature was the speakers. Naturally, Apple found a brilliant solution. Apple mentions, “Since a speaker can’t be sealed because it needs air to produce sound, we reinvented ours—it lets water in, then uses sound vibrations to force it back out.”

The Apple Watch Series 2 can be considered an investment beginning at $369. It comes with the options of an aluminum case with Sport Band, Woven Nylon band, a stainless steel case with Sport Band, stainless steel band, or a leather band. There is also an Apple Watch collaboration with the luxury brand Hermès, whose bands start at $1149. Apple notes that the Apple Watch Series 2 includes a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery, a magnetic charging cable, and a USB power adapter. The battery life of the watch can last up to 18 hours and requires an iPhone 5 or later in order to operate it. Apple’s creativity is astounding, and many people are eager to see what is released next.
