College football is an American favorite, every week the best of the best colleges face off against each other. College Football only started in 1868 232 years after the first collage was founded, which was Harvard where Lafayette alumnus Tyler Neville plays. In college there are 3 divisions, 4 if you count community college.  Each division competes in their own championship, played at the end of the season by the two best teams.

College football is also known as gridiron football, played by the top student athletes playing for universities, colleges, and military academies. Colleges go through a recruiting processes to sign high school prospects around the country, young men who are graded by stars from 1-5 with 5 being the best. Players receive offers from colleges and have to play a minimum of 3 years of college football to be eligible for the NFL draft. College football is watched by millions every weekend, and for many it is the favorite version of the sport to watch, reminiscent of high school games.

College teams will play 12 regular season games and then up to 14 if they make it to the championship. Aside from the playoffs and championship there are bowl games.  These are played by division 1 teams after the initial season, only the very best teams in College football.

Teams get invited to bowl games with very strict requirements. Bowl games are players favorite games becaus

e they get to take trips to the games and have serious bragging rights. It’s always exciting for fans to see rival teams play against each other in bowl games, the energy from the spectators is dynamic. Yale has the most College football championships, standing at a whopping 18, although now Michigan has the most wins ever with 963 under their belt, with Ohio state having 925 in a close second. College football holds some of the most intense and entertaining games of all time.

Every year there is a vote for the best players in College Football.  Ohio state, Oklahoma, Notre Dame are tied for the most winners standing at 7. The Heisman Trophy is given to players with great ability, diligence, perseverance, and hard work.  The winner is chosen in December each year, before the bowl games. This trophy is named after Coach J0hn W. Heisman, of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta from 1904 to 1919. John later pursued acting and sports writing. He died at the age 66 in 1936. Still to this day the Heisman trophy is the most prestigious award a college football player could receive.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are one of the best all-time teams in College football history. The Buckeyes have a whopping 8 national championships and 7 all time Heisman trophy winners. Ohio state has been a ranked team since November 6. 1994 and has made it to the playoffs plenty of times to claim their titles.  The Buckeyes will forever be one of the greatest teams of all time. Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes is reported on the “Buckeyes Fans Only” website to have said, “Nothing that comes easy is worth a dime.” He’s also quoted there, talking about how the entire football program lives by that, “it gives them motivation to continue to work hard,” he says.
