Ever since humans have been around, they have looked up and seen the sun and the stars and wondered what is up there. Fast forward to April 12th, 1961, the day Yuri Gagarin became the first human to ever go to space. Now we have a new achievement to be proud of. Humans have started the colonization of space with the first independent space nation, Asgardia.

Asgardia was announced during a press conference in Paris on October 12th and had over 100,000 applicants within two days. It may come as a surprise that so many people applied to become a in such a short time, but all that is needed to qualify is a name and an email address.

The founder of Asgardia is Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli, who founded Asgardia with the intention of insuring that space is a peaceful place and that the Earth stays safe from whatever threats may arise. Asgardia is seeking to become a member of the United Nations, and is expected to be recognized as such in the near future. Asgardia is comprised of several satellites and protective space platforms and may grow larger in years to come.

Asgardia will change the world by becoming the first step into settling “the final frontier” that has been dreamed about for centuries by humans and philosophers alike.
