The Heisman trophy is an award given to the most outstanding college football player of the year. This year there are 12 Heisman trophy candidates: Lamar Jackson, Jake Browning, Deshaun Watson, Donnel Pumphrey, Jabrill Peppers, Jonathan Allen, Leonard Fournette, Jalen Hurts, J.T. Barrett, Patrick Mahomes II, Dalvin Cook, and Myles Garrett.

As of November 1, 2016, Louisville sophomore and quarterback, Lamar Jackson is in first place to win the Heisman with 50 votes. Also a sophomore and quarterback, Jake Browning of Washington is in s

econd place for the Heisman trophy with 29 points. In third place is junior and quarterback, Deshaun Watson of Clemson with a total of 25 points. The remaining nine candidates for the Heisman trophy do not have as much luck when it comes to their votes. The fourth place candidate for the trophy only has 18 votes, leaving a big gap between the top three candidates and the rest of the players. The lowest amount of votes a candidate has at the moment is just one; making it not likely for them to catch up to the top of the list.

The winner of the Heisman Trophy is announced on December 10, 2016 at 8 o’clock pm. According to fansided.com, the odds show DeShaun Watson, Leonard Fournette, and Christian McCaffery being the primary favorites to win the award.  Last year, McCaffery and Watson finished in second and third place respectively behind the winner of the award, Derrick Henry.
