Baseball Preview:

In the past few baseball seasons, Lafayette has been a strong competitor for the state title. In 2015, Lafayette became the Virginia 3A State Baseball Champion. In 2016, the team had another good run for the state title, but the team lost in the 4A Regional Semi-Final game, which would have qualified them for the state game. This year the team plans to be a strong competitor, again, in both the Bay Rivers District and the state. John Keane, a senior at Lafayette High School, said, “The team is hoping to return to states again this year and win.” Led by seniors John Barton, John Keane, Gabe Bono, Chase Bauer, Jared Antle, Jacob Johnson, Jay Alex, and Marcos Piggot, most of whom have been on the Varsity team since their sophomore year and were a part of the team that won the game to make them Virginia 3A State Baseball Champions in 2015, they will be looking for another state title. Their biggest competitors are most likely going to be Jamestown and Hanover again this year.
