The movie ad poster for Marvel’s latest addition to its comicverse.

Everyone knows the classic Marvel lineup- Iron Man, Captain America and The Hulk- but only a select few fans know about Dr. Strange. Marvel’s choice to make a film about such an obscure character has raised questions about its potential for success.

Doctor Strange is the story of a surgeon named Dr. Stephen Strange. Dr. Strange is a very cocky doctor who loses the use of his hands in a career ending car accident. He then learns of an unorthodox way to heal his hands. Strange travels to Nepal and learns sorcery from a woman named The Ancient One. While there, Strange learns of a great evil named Dormammu and must battle him to save the Universe.

While Doctor Strange does have its flaws it most certainly has some strengths. First, the special effects in this movie are great. All of the spells look visually stunning and are unlike anything previously seen on the big screen. Another great aspect of this movie is its casting. Benedict Cumberbatch as the egotistical Dr. Strange is a perfect fit for the role, just as Robert Downey Jr. was made to play Tony Stark.

Doctor Strange does have some flaws. The story is predictable and cliché. Dr. Strange starts as a cocky neurosurgeon and ends as a powerful sorcerer who learned the benefits of being humble. Also, Doctor Strange suffers from a problem many superhero movies do: the antagonist of the movie is simple. He exists only to be an antagonist, nothing more.

Doctor Strange is successful, despite some minor flaws.. This movie is a must see just because of its visual effects alone, because of this I give this movie 4/5.
